Setting the Google Analytics tracking code step by step
In addition to the right Web store design and the use of different marketing tools and the presence in different marketing channels, measuring and analyzing the results appropriately is also important.
It is difficult to design a marketing budget or to select appropriate marketing tools without measuring effectiveness and having a proper analysis. The basis of online marketing is that your web store interface shall work effectively and this you shall confirm by figures.
As the figures never lie, there will always be indicators in the analysis of the results that can be further improved.
Google Analytics and Google Search Console are free analytical tools with many features, but in this post, we will not present all the settings options.
Google Analytics allows you to get a lot of information, for example:
- visitors to your website,
- the efficiency of subpages and marketing channels,
- how much visitors like your content,
- or what the purchase phases are that you can use to optimize your conversion to increase your revenue even further.
As you can see in the free Google Analytics repository, there are a number of indicators that you can use effectively to achieve your goals.
Another free tool is Google Search Console that provides help for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and streamlining your Google Ads advertisements.
In this blog post, we want to show Google Analytics registration and the setting of the Tracking Code.
If you have no Analytics account yet, from your gmail account, visit Google Marketing Platform page and click the Start for free icon.
On the interface displayed, enter the information for your new account as you see in the image.
Step 1: Enter your account name and set the options for data sharing.
Step 2: Next, set your property. Instead of Google Analytics 4 type property, select to create a Universal Analytics.
Scrolling down, click Next.
Click Advanced Settings. Set it to create a Universal Analytics property and select Set up a Universal Analytics property only.

You can also set your time zone and the trading currency.
Step 3: When setting the url to the site, be aware whether your webshop has an HTTPS, i.e. an SSL certificate. If an SSL certificate is set, select the designation https://, then enter your primary domain in the subsequent field
Step 4: In this step you can select the industry category associated with your product scope.
You can indicate the dimensions of your business and what exactly you want to measure.
Then, in the pop-up window, accept the Google Analytics Standard Terms and Conditions.
After accepting that document, you will be transferred to the Tracking Data / Tracking Code menu item.
Copy the JavaScript code you have received and paste it as a first item in the <HEAD> section of the web pages you want to track.
If you have a Shoprenter website, you only need to copy the unique Tracking ID shown in the image below into the field on the admin interface in the tab Settings > SEO > SEO and Analytics settings > Google Analytics and save the change.
When you’re done with it, you can click on the Main Page to check if everything is properly adjusted.
We hope that helped to implement the Google Analytics tracking code. If anything goes wrong, feel free to contact us.
